51st Annual Lara D. Gass Symposium on Delaware’s Role in Corporate Governance Law

To be held on Friday March 20th, 2020 in the Millhiser Moot Court Room

Washington and Lee School of Law

Lexington, VA

On Friday, March 20th, the Washington and Lee Law Review will host its 51st annual Lara D. Gass Symposium. This year’s theme is “The Changing Role of Delaware in Corporate Governance.” The Symposium will bring together a diverse set of panelists, including judges, practitioners, and academics, who offer a wide range of perspectives on the issues surrounding Delaware’s role in corporate governance.

The Symposium will begin on Friday morning at 9:00 with a panel discussing the history and context of Delaware corporate governance law. The panelists will discuss the four key decisions that prompted the Symposium’s topic. The next two panels will focus on the impact of those decisions on recent changes in deal litigation filing and appraisal litigation in Delaware state courts. The last panel of the day will feature a discussion among practitioners and academics about the future of Delaware’s role in corporate governance.

Vice Chancellor Joseph R. Slights III will deliver the Symposium’s keynote address at 12:30 p.m. The Honorable Joseph R. Slights III was sworn in as a Vice Chancellor of the Court of Chancery on March 28, 2016. Before his appointment, Vice Chancellor Slights was a partner in the Delaware law firm Morris James LLP where he practiced corporate and business litigation and chaired the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution practice group. Before that, he served a twelve year term as a Judge on the Superior Court of Delaware where, among other assignments, he was instrumental in forming the Court’s Complex Commercial Litigation Division.

The Symposium will be held in the Millhiser Moot Court Room. All events are open to the general public, and we hope many will come learn about this important topic from some of the top judges, practitioners, and academics in the field.
